Welcome to Black Week

Do you really need that thing that you’ve just seen advertised?

My email inbox informs me that Black Week has just started…. And as such I should buy a hell of a lot of stuff which I don’t really need.

Now… Do not get me wrong if you have been searching for an item for a while and suddenly it is at a very competitive price it could be a good time to buy it. But of course be aware that a lot of shops mark up their prices just before Black Week so that their discounts sound even bigger than they really are.

Do you really need a new version of the thing that you are buying or could you maybe find a really good option on a website such as Finn.no or a local Facebook group?

Even when we are buying walking equipment or items of clothing, we regularly check such websites and groups in case someone is selling a nearly new version at a discounted price.

Remember that the moment you drive out of the showroom in your new car it instantly devalues by 10 to 15%. Just stating facts.

In response to Black Week, over the past few years there has been a movement towards Green Week or Green Friday.

Many brands or organisations organize sales of used equipment to reduce the impact on both climate and people’s finance. DNT and POW (Protect our Winters) do this with the Sports clothing and equipment. It is amazing what you can pick up there I have found.

So as Black Week starts I will be using the occasion for the whole of the week to write climate based blog topics.
