The Snow Hunter

I was awoken in the middle of the night by the sound of the rain hammering on my window.

Imagine therefore my surprise at 6:30 this morning when I opened the blinds and saw that it was snowing lightly outside.

The snow was not settling on the ground but it gave me hope and started my mind planning for today.

A few months ago I bought myself a Gore-Tex hunting outfit for exactly these kind of wet days. Today we would be hunting…… for snow.

A walk in light snowy conditions is always preferable to rain.

My experience told me that I would have to either go high or go further into the woods.

As my afternoon walk would be at Grefsenkollen… and I believe that variety is the spice of life… I headed to Maridalen.

Like the hunter stalking at their prey and looking for signs and tracks, they were sooner to be found.

Driving up and past Sagene, I saw a car with five centimeters of snow on its roof. Social demographic profiling told me this make and age of car did not come from Holmenkollen.

As we drove into Maridalen, more and more snowy cars appeared. We were getting close.

Rounding the corner I got my first view of MaridalsAlpene in the distance. They were white.

We arrived at the walk and found white slushy snow which is always preferable to mud.

We had a fantastic adventure in the white gold.

By the way my hunch about Grefsenkollen was also correct. Buy the early afternoon most of the snow was being washed away but there was still enough up there to have great fun.

We all have local knowledge and expertise, so ensure that you use it to elevate your adventures.
