Be proud of the work you do

It is hard for me to stress quite how important today’s topic is.

For those who wish to climb Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs pyramid, you must take pride in the work and actions you do. We are all striving for Self Actualisation, whether we admit it to ourselves or not.

I would like to add that this is by no means reserved purely for careers and work. It should be ingrained in all our actions.

This is also not about boasting or boosting the ego. Pride and humility can be bed fellows.

This is about being able to answer your own biggest critic and know that you have done a good job.

You did not let your standards slip and cut corners unnecessarily.

Muhammad Ali once said that if he had been a street sweeper he would have been the best one ever.

If you are still struggling to find meaning or take pride in your work then why not try this simple exercise…. Think of someone who you respect dearly. It could be a family member, a friend or even someone you have never met. They do not need to be living, just that they are a source of inspiration to you.

Now, whatever work task or activity that you are doing imagine that they are with you. They have joined you to observe and learn how you do the task.

I can guarantee that you will find more focus, motivation and do the activity to a higher standard… And in doing this you will take pride in your work.
