Rain Dance

It would seem that my rain dance has worked!

After 3-4 sweltering weeks the rain finally returned yesterday.

It was really getting far too dry out in the woods. So dry that last week there was a forest fire in Maridalen. The streams and ponds that we usually walk to had dried up.

My shoes and trousers have been coated every day with a layer of dust and dirt as the earth cracked up with no renewed moisture.

Yesterday when the light rain finally started falling I was actually out with my family having a picnic with friends. We had been so long without rain that we did not seek any shelter and just sat in the light rain, loving the feeling.

On returning home we opened all our windows as far as they would go. The fresh air and moisture could flood into our home along with that amazing smell of new rain.

The difference to our dog walks is immeasurable. Especially last week we were having some older dogs lie down after barely 20 minutes of gentle walking. Even the most energetic were starting to lie down after 40 minutes as we took well deserved breaks in the shade.

Fast forward to a damp Oslomarka today. The dogs have been jumping around for joy in the moist conditions and rolling in the gloriously wet grass.

Energy levels are back to 100% and they are crazy again. No need for motivational pep talks, the dogs were ready to adventure.

With overcast conditions and a bit more rain forecast for the next few days we could not be happier.
