The benefits of dog walking from the dogs’ perspective

The benefits of dog walking are many so I will try to outline some of the key ones.

The one I am sure everyone jumps to is that a good dog walk should lead to a happy tired dog. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing your dog tired and sprawled out on the floor.

But let us take a historical point of view. Dogs and before them Wolves are essentially pack animals. The lone dog or wolf would struggle in the wild to survive.

The problem with this is that most dogs these days live with humans and not another dog.

The social aspect of the dog walk cannot be underestimated. Let two dogs run around for 20 minutes and they will be a lot more tired than if you throw the ball for well over 1 hour. I should know, I own a border collie.

The dog walk therefore gives your dogs an opportunity to be dogs.

But the health benefits are not just purely a tired dog.

I remember years ago when one of our current dogs who shall remain anonymous started walking with us. The vet had recommended to the owners that the dog needed to lower its blood pressure and become healthier.

Now we did not do any special extra on that dog’s walks. We just let it run around with the others on our Adventures. 1 month later when it was back for a check-up, the results were in. Not only was that dog now healthy but we had reversed the ageing process and it was now healthier than dogs 2 years it’s a junior.

Needless to say that same dog 7 years on is still running around and in super shape for their age.

I would therefore like to think that we have extended that dog’s life whilst giving it joyful and fun walks.

Check back in tomorrow when I will take the perspective of the dog owner.
